I feel like snarking, so I think I will…
I knew you were going to make this episode, that’s why I was nice with Bonkers.
Anyway, you make great points about how this one just gets over the top about how much cooler it is just because it was all new for it’s time, but my one huge gripe I have had with Quack Pack was how Huey, Dewey, and Louie were given more human sounding preteen voices while Donald continues to have his signature duck voice. It just seemed to send a message that being the cool kid makes you look like the normal guy which is insulting.
Other than that, with Ducktales already made Disney pretty much wasted their time with this one. I personally would have preferred a show about Mickey and his nephews Morty and Ferdie, we hardly ever got to see much of them away from the comics.
I’m hoping the show you’re talking about is Snookums & Meat because not only did the full title like by NOT being a “funny” cartoon show, it was not-Disney in tone and style, looked like garbage, and was the only Disney Afternoon show I couldn’t bring myself to watch, and I gave Quack Pack as big a chance as I could before writing it off.
Ironically my brother likes this show based on the fact he’s crazy about ducks in general. Of course we’re not completely sure if he’s just plain crazy. 😛
I think I had stopped watching Disney cartoons around this point, so I have no idea what the final years of the Disney Afternoon block were like. I’m curious to see what you have for us next week!
Well, I guess I have to admit that “Quack Pack” never was my favorite show either. But it was mostly enjoyable for what it was, and I actually like the theme song.
The producers of this show didn’t understand that there’s a difference between bad art and lazy art.
Bad art like say A Nightmare On Elm Street: 5: The Dream Child at least has some unique interesting and creative ideas serving as the base of the piroduct, and what happened was that during the production process those ideas got cut due to time constraints or were altered to the point that the original concept for their piece was completely stripped out and what was left was a pale shadow of what it could have been with enough time to fully flesh out the story and tell it the way they had wanted for it to be told.
Lazy art like quack pack just doesn’t even try from the get go, it has no original unique or creative ideas serving as the basis of the product, they (disney) had as much time as they wanted to come up with something original for these characters (like say making the boys into adults and having it be their children who take great uncle donald on zany adventures in the modern world).
But instead they just looked at what was popular in the world of live action sitcom television at the time and stole ideas characters and concepts from Home Improvement, Mad About You and Newsradio then simply said “that’ll do, if we steal all these elements we’ll have a show that will have cross over appeal with young teens (the kids who used to watch our shows five years ago) kids and their parents.
